Small metal plates found on the back of a computer system on the actual case
that cover the openings for expansion slots unoccupied by a
sound card, video card, network card and so on. When adding a card or device to
your system, you'll need to remove the blank-off plate. Some blank-off plates
are removed by unscrewing it from the case, while others you simply snap off by
pushing on them.
The acrylic plates that cover the openings that are unoccupied by a device,
such as a hard drive, DVD-ROM or USB ports, on the front of the computer case
are also called a blank-off plates but are more commonly called a face-plate
or filler plate.
