The terms portrait and landscape refer to different orientations of the paper -- whether it is oriented vertically or horizontally. A page with portrait orientation, typical for letters, memos, and other textdocuments, is taller than it is wide.
Not all printers are capable of generating text in landscape mode.
Orientation is also a characteristic of monitors. Portrait monitors are often called full-page monitors .
